Our Top 3 Places in the Hawkesbury for Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian & Allergy Friendly Dining

Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian & Allergy Friendly Restaurants in the Hawkesbury

Navigating dietary needs while dining out can be challenging and we certainly do understand it first-hand. More recently too, we’ve had a number of guests who have enquired about gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian options. With an egg allergy and gluten free preference in our family, we’ve road-tested the local menus to bring you our three local favourites: the Lime & Coconut Café in Windsor, Schembrae's at Kurrajong, and the Sugar Glider in North Richmond.

We've selected them not only for their delicious food but for their genuinely inclusive menus that cater to a variety of dietary requirements and offer a wide range of choices.

Where Are the Best Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian and Allergy-Friendly Places to Eat in the Hawkesbury?

Below are our top picks, with details on what we think makes each one special. In no particular order:

Lime & Coconut Café – Windsor

Why we love it:

This local favourite café is a go-to spot, not just for their popular coffee but also for their  gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan options. Whether you’re after a fresh organic smoothie bowl, gluten-free toasties, nourishing salads, or oat milk lattes, they’ve got you covered for breakfast & lunch.

  • Gluten Free: Many menu items are available on gluten-free bread, plus be sure to check out their gluten-free treats.

  • Vegan/Vegetarian: Plant-based meals, treats and milk alternatives for coffee.

  • Allergy-Friendly: Staff are allergy-aware and happy to assist with customisations.

  • Focus on Paddock to Plate: Produce is carefully and locally sourced and as much as possible, they use a range of certified organic products.

  • Kid’s Menu: Dishes include Gluten free bacon & egg rolls, waffles, bacon & eggs on toast and a fruit bowl to name a few.

  • Must try dish: My personal favourite is the Gluten Free Eggs Benedict!

Schembrae’s - Kurrajong

Why we love it:
Set in the scenic village of Kurrajong, just a short drive from Dido’s Place, Schembrae’s offers mouth-watering Mediterranean cuisine with a gorgeous view. Perfect for a tapas-style lunch or dinner, they have a standout wine list of locally sourced beers, wines and ciders in addition to their famous signature cocktails.

  • Gluten Free: Clearly marked options, adaptable dishes and a vast selection.

  • Vegan/Vegetarian: Creative modern and traditional vegetarian meals using seasonal produce.

  • Allergy-Friendly: Staff are knowledgeable and can work around common allergens.

  • Locally sourced: Produce is sourced locally from the Hawkesbury food basin.

  • Kid’s Menu: Dishes include Chicken tenders with chips (gluten free & dairy free) & Pasta Napolitan (vegetarian).

  • Must try dish: There are so many we’d highly recommend, but there is one dish I refuse to share and that is the Steamed Mussels with Maltese Sausage in a zesty tomato sauce. Yum!

Why These Spots?

We’ve handpicked these three Hawkesbury gems because they offer a well-rounded and generous selection for people with dietary needs, and not just one or two token dishes. They understand what it means to dine inclusively and safely, which is why we confidently recommend them to our guests.
