Getting There & Walking Directions

Park your car in the turning circle at the very end of Lieutenant Bowen Drive, Bowen Mountain.

Begin your walk at the locked gate and follow the main fire trail. About 50 metres in, you’ll reach a junction where the trail splits three ways.
👉 Take the middle track, this is the Southern Fire Trail (not Duffy’s Fire Trail and not the Eastern Fire Trail). A sign on the left-hand side shortly after confirms you’re heading the right way.

Continue along the fire trail until you reach a fork where the track appears to split again.
👉 Take the right-hand, more prominent trail.

At the end of the fire trail, you’ll reach another turning circle. Directly ahead, you’ll notice rock outcrops. Carefully and safely make your way onto the rocks to take in the breathtaking views.

When we walked this track as a family, we had the children sit well back in a safe area away from the rock ledges. One parent stayed with them while the other explored the rocks and enjoyed the views.

Once you’re done soaking it all in, return to the turning circle. On the left-hand side, you’ll see a small foot track. Follow this short path and you’ll arrive at Poets Rock.

A Little About Poets Rock

Poets Rock is a quiet, lesser-known lookout perched high above the Grose River, offering sweeping views across Grose Head South and over to Faulconbridge Ridge. Named for the peaceful, inspiring atmosphere that drew writers and nature lovers to this spot seeking quiet reflection, its cave-like shape invites you in to take a seat and enjoy the scenery.

From here, simply retrace your steps back to the car the way you came.
